The Hierophant

Here's my final illustration for the May bootcamp. The main assignment was: Tarot. Picking my Taurean equivalent, I designed the Hierophant card.

In ancient Greece, the Hierophant was a priest, who passed his time interpreting the ancient mysteries. In Tarot, the appearance of this card has to do with education, beliefs and knowledge.

Avocado Fiesta

Avocados are delicious and their uses are only limited by your foody imagination.
Why not try this easy guacamole recipe? Pop open a bag of tortillas and serve accompanied by a chilled glass of wine.

Shelve It

This highlight of this week was to hear that the American Book Center, Amsterdam has added my storybook: Sam & the Adventure to their shelves, along with the accompanying colouring book. (www.abc.nl)

How cool is that?

Anyway, if you're not in Amsterdam the books are also available from my website: Alison Day Designs 😀

Medieval Bootcamp

The assignment mini and third in a series of 5 on the MATS Bootcamp is well under way, with a theme this time of: Medieval Symbols.

With a suggestion to do no more than one hour's research, I have a week to sketch, paint or put down as many ideas as possible, before the unveiling of the main assignment on 16th May.

A rich and varied subject for sketching and Pinterest is great for instant inspiration. I already have lots of sheets filled with sketches and mini watercolours: Medieval flowers and motiefs appear with a flourish; illuminated letters are embellished with gold, flowers and writhing vines; lions, birds and mythological beasts cavort across the page or stand and stare.

As with the previous two assignments, I'm enjoying the journey and occassional 'aha!' moments and of course, I'm also really curious what the main assignment is.

Chocolate Bowties

Day 2/100 - Chocolate bowtie pasta. This packet looks so pretty, it seems a shame to open it. The owner of the shop where I bought it suggested a creamy sauce as accompaniment, as he packed the olive oil from Etna, Limoncello, dark chocolate with orange and some sun dried tomatoes into a bag—yum!

100 Days

Having recently enjoyed an inspiring Spring jaunt to Sicily, I decided that I'd start off my food and drink participation in #the100dayproject with an Italian goody.

Day 1/100 - Cannoli.
